London-based artist, Paul Stephenson, creates his work through a form of painting called Sous Rature. The definition for this technique involves the crossing out of a word within a text, but allowing it to remain legible and in place. Stephenson elevates this further, through his remixing of old original works of art into something new and modern.
Stephenson has been researching and recreating the practices first established by Andy Warhol and has dedicated the last decade to creating After Warhol. Using the Pop Art founder's original acetate, Stephenson and Atelier JI collaborated to recreate Warhol's iconic 1964 graphic of the First Lady of the United States, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
