Liorah Tchiprout is, in her own words, ‘a printer that makes paintings’. She studied Fine Art Printmaking at the University of Brighton, with a semester at the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem, before completing an MA in Print at Camberwell College of Arts.
Central to her practice is a private cast of handmade dolls, built on mannequin and wire armatures and modelled on herself, close friends, and figures from literature, film and her own imagining. She stages them in intimate, theatrical scenes as the basis for her drawings, paintings, monotypes and etchings, underpinned by a sustained practice of drawing.
Shaped by Yiddish literature and the work of female poets, whose lines often give her works their titles, Tchiprout creates a world that is tender and deliberately removed from violence, carrying a quiet spiritual undercurrent. Her work is informed by printmakers such as Käthe Kollwitz and Paula Rego, alongside painters including Paula Modersohn-Becker, Léon Spilliaert and John Singer Sargent.
In 2021, she was selected for Bloomberg New Contemporaries, and in 2023 she received the Sunny Dupree Family Award for a Woman Artist at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Her work is held in the UK Government Art Collection, the Rachofsky Collection, Dallas, the Ruth Borchard Collection, London, and Clifford Chance, London. In 2025, her work was acquired for the Arts Council Collection at Frieze London. She is represented by Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, London.
